ACTIVITIES

Stuff to do in the area

The Alpine Retreat Hotel is a little over an hours drive from Melbourne, right in the heart of Warburton and the Yarra Valley. Warburton has some of the most scenic places the Yarra Valley has to offer including the incredible Redwood forest.

Mt Donna Buang

Mt Victoria and Donna Buang are frequently covered in snow during the winter months. ‘Donna’ is a very popular spot for the not so serious

tobogganing enthusiast, or families and anyone wanting to throw a snowball, build a snowman or just roll in the snow.

Further up the range is Lake Mountain, one of Australia’s best cross country skiing mountains. During the snow season , toboggan hire is available in Warburton, Mt Donna Buang and Lake Mountain.

Warburton Waterwheel

The Visitor Information Centre is located on the main street in the heart of Warburton and represents all the wonderful things to do and

places to stay in the Warburton Valley, and all the towns along the Warburton Highway.

Scenic Walks

Whether you want a scenic walk around the beautiful yarra river and tributaries or a walk into the history of the town along the well known

rail trail or a vertical climb to the summit of Mt Donna Buanng for the super fit, Waburton has an array of scenic walking trails.

Popular tracks are Dolly Grey Park, La La Falls, Riverside Drive and Old Warburton Road.

The Ada Tree

The Ada Tree, a giant Mountain Ash (Eucalyptus regnans), is considered to be one of Victoria’s largest living trees. It is estimated to be over

300 years old and towers over the surrounding rainforest in the headwaters of the Little Ada River.

Rainforest Gallery

Situated halfway up Mt Donna Buanng this beautiful site features a 40 metre long observation platform (one of only three of its type in Australia) which takes you into the rainforest canopy 15 metres above the ground.

A 350 metre long elevated walkway takes you through the Rainforest Gallery where you will see magnificent 65 metre tall old growth Mountain Ash trees, ancient Myrtle Beech trees (many of which are 300 to 400 years old), ferns, mosses and other plants that make up this damp and diverse rainforest environment.

Lilydale to Warburton Trail

The Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail is an iconic 40 km recreation trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The trail follows the path of the historical railway line through the stunning Yarra Valley starting behind Lilydale Railway Station and finishing in the Warburton township.

Follow the trail past the old turntable and continue around behind Mount Lilydale Mercy College which links to the Maroondah Highway Overpass. Make your way up into delightful bushland surroundings and through the tunnel, take the time to enjoy the historic first aid post..
